I build open tools for mathematical computation. I founded SageMath, lead CoCalc as founder and CEO of SageMath, Inc., and am now developing Sage.js with Codex for a new generation of human and agent research.
Current work
Open computation as a long-term project
My work has moved between number theory, mathematical software, browser-based collaboration, and building a company around sustained open infrastructure. Those are not separate tracks: explicit mathematics drives the software, and better software changes which mathematical questions can be explored.
Before working full time on SageMath, Inc., I was a tenured professor of mathematics at the University of Washington. My mathematical research centered on computational number theory, modular forms, elliptic curves, and the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture.
